Steam gasification of biomass – Typical gas quality and operational strategies derived from industrial-scale plants

Steam gasification enables the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels into a medium calorific gas that can be utilized for synthesis advanced biofuels, chemicals or heat and power production. Dual fluidized bed (DFB) is at present technology applied to realize biomass in steam environment large scale. Few large-scale DFB gasifiers exist, this work presents compilation analysis data operational strategies from six Europe. It shown robust, as similar quality achieved despite differences reactor design operation strategies. Reference concentrations both components tar are provided, correlations investigated. In all plants, adjusting availability accessibility active ash (K Ca) was key control quality. The quality, particular content gas, conveniently assessed by monitored concentration CH4 produced gas. experience acquired these plants provide important knowledge future development biomass.
